Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) has initiated a pivotal research project to analyze and propose regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies in India. The effort includes advisory board consultations with legal luminaries and regional stakeholder meetings to gather diverse perspectives.

Key focus areas emerging from discussions include the need for precise legal definitions of VIRTUAL digital assets (VDAs), improved inter-regulatory coordination, tax simplification, and enhanced consumer protection mechanisms. The project aims to balance innovation with risk mitigation in India's rapidly evolving crypto landscape.

Director S. Shanthakumar emphasizes the study's goal to develop evidence-based policies that accommodate technological advancement while maintaining necessary safeguards. Industry insights from Bengaluru's tech hub are informing the policy formulation process.
